I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and hold a Master's degree in Counseling. Before joining Sheehan Psychotherapy, I worked at the Providence Veteran's Administration Medical Center in the PTSD Clinic. While working at the VA, I became involved in many PTSD studies and research projects. Drawing from the education and knowledge I gained at the VA, I later worked in the emergency room and Oncology Unit at Kent County Memorial Hospital.
I use a variety of treatment techniques in my counseling sessions depending on the needs of the individual client. Among the approaches I employ are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered and Solution-Focused therapies, as well as Existential and Internal Family Systems approaches. I see adults and older adolescents dealing with issues such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief.
I view therapy as a collaborative, sharing experience and seek to help my clients feel comfortable, hopeful, and truly understood. I would be happy to talk with you about how I might be of help.
